Six-time major winner Phil Mickelson has confessed he wishes he worked on his fitness and nutrition earlier in his career like Tiger Woods did

Phil Mickelson has revealed he wishes he took better care of his fitness and nutrition earlier on in his legendary career.

The six-time major winner, who joined LIV Golf in 2022, is still one of the sport’s biggest names, thanks in part to his rivalry with Tiger Woods. The pair shared the stage for some of golf’s most exciting moments over the years, with Mickelson recently admitting Woods had a huge impact on the sport and how players worked on their fitness and nutrition.

Now 54, Mickelson believes he is in the shape of his life, thanks to focusing on his body, something he wishes he had done earlier in his career. And speaking to Australian Golf Digest’s Brad Clifton, Mickelson revealed it was Woods who took the sport to another level when it comes to fitness.

Clifton asked if there were any regrets over his career and whether he feels he could have won more, and Mickelson had an honest reaction.

Mickelson responded: “I do wish I had dove in and learned more about nutrition. When I started playing golf though fitness wasn’t even an issue. It wasn’t until Tiger came along— he was years behind me—that it really got to be accepted and then got to grow.

He then added: “The formation of TPI, Titleist Performance Institute with Dave Phillips and Greg Rose, that we really started to train for golf specifically, as well as injury prevention.
