Phil Mickelson and the rest of the HyFlyers GC team that he captains for Liv Golf recently released a video welcoming their new team member Andy Ogletree
Golf superstar Phil Mickelson and his HyFlyers GC crew have welcoming 25-year-old American golfer Andy Ogletree to their LIV Golf team.
In a video shared on social media, Mickelson and teammates Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale all expressed their excitement about Ogletree joining them. Mickelson said: “Andy Ogletree, welcome to the HyFlyers. We are so excited to have you.”
Steele added: “Andy, it’s going to be an awesome year. You’re going to bring so much to the team and we can’t wait to get started.” After Tringale cheered, “Let’s go, baby,” Mickelson concluded with, “Let’s fly and go.”
Phil Mickelson had previously praised Ogletree, saying he was a perfect addition to the team. “Andy is one of the most impressive young players in the game who has earned his spot on LIV,” Mickelson stated.
“The work he has continued to put in and the resiliency he showed this past year in creating his own success was awesome to see. He makes the HyFlyers a contender next year, and just as importantly, Andy fits in perfectly with everyone on the team.”
Ogletree has secured his spot in LIV Golf after initially missing out on a place in the lucrative series. He earned a spot after he was named the champion of the Asian Tour’s International Series, thanks to a tied-15th finish at the Hong Kong Open.
He filled one of the four open spots on the Saudi-backed circuit following the relegation of Chase Koepka, Sihwan Kim, James Piot, and Jediah Morgan last month. The 25-year-old is familiar with LIV Golf, having played in the league’s first tournament at Centurion Club in St Albans in June 2022.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a great week for the U.S. Amateur winner, as he finished last in the 48-man field and was cut from the roster for the rest of the season. However, Ogletree bounced back by focusing on the International Series this year.
In the past year, the Georgia Tech graduate has won three times on the Asian Tour’s 10-event series, with victories in Egypt, Qatar, and England. His excellent performance earned him a temporary call-up to LIV during the 2023 season, where he served as an injury reserve at several events.
Now, the American golfer has secured a permanent place on the 2024 roster, a challenge he’s excited about. “It’s awesome! I am so excited to win the Order of Merit,” he said. ‘It’s been a lot of hard work this year, and a lot of great golf has gone into this.”
“I just want to thank everyone that’s gotten me to this point: the Asian Tour for all that they’ve done, and my team back home for allowing me to play the way I’ve played this year. I couldn’t be more excited, and I can’t wait to play LIV next year.”
Ogletree added: “I’ll definitely play a few events on The International Series along with all the LIV events that I’m going to play, so next year should be a great year, and I just can’t wait to get started.” He also revealed earlier this week that he had already been in touch with several LIV teams ahead of his comeback
