Golf legend Phil Mickelson took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) platform to voice his support for California law enforcement. The former PGA Tour star commented on the state’s latest law regarding shoplifting.
California’s Proposition 36 aims to curb retail crime by enabling police officers to arrest and jail shoplifters regardless of the value of the stolen goods. Mickelson expressed his gratitude for the officers and shared his thoughts on the impact of the legislation.
His post on X was accompanied by a repost of a news clip highlighting the enforcement of Proposition 36. The LIV Golf player said (via X @PhilMickelson):
“Our officers finally have some support so they can do their job and keep the residents safe and protect business. Thank you for your service and I’m so sorry our gov leaders have been letting you down for so long.”

Mickelson was born in San Diego, California. Despite moving to Florida, the 54-year-old continues to raise awareness of his native’s struggles and challenges.
Phil Mickelson wishes to “step down” from golf
During the 2024 LIV Golf Invitational in Chicago, Phil Mickelson talked about his career goals over the next few years. His season on the LIV Golf league this year was mediocre and left the former PGA Tour sensation in splits over his future.
The HyFlyers GC captain stated that he and his teammates see “glimpses” of his skills come into play on the golf course. Mickelson wishes to step away from professional golf if he doesn’t live up to his legacy.
He said (via Golf Digest):
“I see glimpses and my teammates see glimpses of me being where I expect to be able to compete at this level, but I’m also realistic with myself, and if I’m not able to I’ll step aside and let somebody come on in and take the HyFlyers to new levels. I’m in every major on the regular tour next year, and I’ll be in three of the four majors for the next six, seven years. I would love to compete and give myself a chance to win in those, and I also want to build this out and create a culture that is sustainable and that people strive to be a part of.”
The 2013 Open Championship winner made 14 starts on the LIV Golf league this year and placed 46th on the individual leaderboard with a mere 12.21 points earned.
He recorded his season’s best finish at the 2024 LIV Golf Invitational in Jeddah. Mickelson carded in scores of five under par, two under par, and 3 under par to finish tied for sixth place with a total 54-hole score of ten under par. He picked up 11.33 points for his finish in the event.
The Hong Kong edition of the event saw the US Amateur winner’s worst performance of the season. He placed 52nd on the rankings and earned zero points for a total score of eight over par.
