Phil Mickelson is looking to turn back the clock this week at The Open Championship.
Mickelson, who in 2016 finished runner-up to Henrik Stenson at Royal Troon in one of the best Open duels in history, hopes to find some of the same magic this week in Scotland.
Slated to begin his first round Thursday at 3:47 a.m. ET alongside Dustin Johnson and Joost Luiten, Mickelson recently provided a sneak peek at one of his potential outfits this week – and it has the golf world buzzing.
Take a look:
“As an unfashionable 54 year old, I never thought I could pull off wearing joggers. Guess I was wrong Thank you @GrantHorvatGolf we both won,” Mickelson posted on X.
Why is the 54-year-old Mickelson sporting joggers on the Wednesday before the 152nd Open Championship?
This past week, Mickelson and YouTube golf sensation Grant Horvat played a match at Phil’s home course, Rancho Santa Fe. Mickelson, who shot 72 while giving five shots to Horvat (75), agreed before the match to wear joggers at The Open if he lost.
It’s currently unclear if wearing them during Wednesday’s practice round satisfies the terms of the wager, but it’s evident the golf world loves the new look.
