Prince Harry’s charity, Sentebale, is in the midst of controversy and chaos.
It’s hard to understand what exactly is happening with Sentebale at the moment. The charity was founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, with the goal being to help children and adolescents who are struggling to come to terms with HIV and AIDS diagnoses.
As with any company, changes are bound to happen, such as when Dr. Sophie Chandauka took over for a resigning Johnny Hornby as chairman of the board in 2023. But what happened this month was unthinkable. Harry and Seeiso, along with other trustees of the charity, all resigned from their positions following an internal row. That happened on March 10, but it wasn’t announced until this week. Now, concerning details continue to emerge, particularly of Harry’s behavior.
Dr. Sophie Chandauka calls Prince Harry a bully and harasser
Chandauka has come out to defend herself, claiming that Harry has set “an example of harassment and bullying”.
“Prince Harry authorized the release of a damaging piece of news to the outside world without informing me or my country directors, or my executive director. And can you imagine what that attack has done for me, on me and the 540 individuals in the Sentebale organizations and their famil[ies]? That is an example of harassment and bullying at scale.
Chandauka took particular offense to Harry using his “Sussex PR machine” to notify everyone of his resignation while also placing the blame on Chandauka and others. Harry seemed heartbroken by what transpired in his statement, but who knows what’s really going on behind the scenes.
According to Chandauka, “misogynoir” was to blame for the resignation of Harry and the others. Odds are, this battle is just getting started.
