Prince William and Princess Kate have faced a challenging year, but new reports claim that the future King still goes above and beyond to ensure that his wife enjoys a nightly treat.
The last few months have seen Princess Kate and Prince William face some seriously heavy challenges as a family. Kate underwent major abdominal surgery at the beginning of the year before having to undergo a course of chemotherapy after post-operative tests showed that “cancer had been present”, which forced her to take a long period away from her royal duties as she focussed on recovering out of the public eye.
King Charles was also forced to step back from “public-facing duties” for a time, which left the working members of the Royal Family seriously depleted, and meant Prince William had to conduct somewhat of a balancing act between taking care of his young family and representing the crown officially.
Despite all of these difficulties, new reports have claimed that Prince William is as dedicated a husband as ever, and makes sure most evenings that his wife Kate gets a treat – once their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have gone to bed. As reported in Edinburgh Live, every evening Prince William makes Kate a relaxing drink after everything has been done for their young kids, and it is more normal than you might think. An anonymous palace source was quoted as saying, “William will bring Kate a gin and tonic. They look after each other but in different ways.”
When Kate was in the thick of her chemotherapy, William promised a member of the public who sent their good wishes to his wife that he would “look after” her and sources have previously revealed that Kate was “touched” by how much effort her husband made whilst she was needing to focus on her health.
Marie Claire magazine reported a source as saying, that William “shouldered a lot of the responsibilities, and, what’s more, he seems to be having fun doing it. Kate has seen the change, and she’s genuinely touched by all that he’s doing—not just for her, but for the children.” Another source said, “They remember their vows they said at their wedding…It forced her and William to take a good look at their priorities and be more grateful for what they have. Their vows have never been more profound as they navigate this difficult time.”
When Kate announced that she had completed her chemotherapy she said that the difficult experience had allowed her a fresh perspective, “The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” Kate said. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
