Prince William and his future wife Princess Kate got engaged following a trip to Kenya, in east Africa, back in 2010 – the couple have gone from strength to strength and now have four children.
Prince William’s simple engagement gesture for his future wife Kate Middleton proved that their love was destiny.
The Prince of Wales and his wife are considered to be one of the leading power couples in the British Royal Family. Following a few years together, William took the plunge and proposed to the love of his life in Kenya, east Africa, in 2010.
Wanting to mark the special occasion and tie it back to his family’s recent past, he touchingly gave Kate his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. In a beautiful moment, the pair realised that the ring fit perfectly.
Royal author Robert Jobson wrote in his new book ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The biography’: “When Prince William proposed to Catherine Middleton in 2010, in the wilds of Kenya, he gave her his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Astonishingly, it fit her perfectly, without any adjustments at all.
“As she told a member of the crowd on one of her later walkabouts: ‘It was the same size; it is very special. What an honour to be able to wear it.'”
Kate was aware that she would draw comparisons to William’s late mother Princess Diana. They became clear and Kate reportedly found all the gossip about the supposed similarities very stressful.
Kate said she wanted to join Camilla in refusing to be known as the Princess of Wales. While Diana had a difficult time within the Royal Family, Kate has taken her role in stride.
She has also become a calming influence on her husband and is seen as an instinctive peace-maker, royal author Robert Jobson wrote for MailOnline. “In recent years, they have become much closer,” a source told him. Fortunately, William has also forged a strong bond with his father following a difficult childhood.
“He also respects his father and his devotion to service, but he feels the fact his father put work first had a detrimental impact on him when he was growing up and didn’t help their father/son relationship.”
Kate was also able to help her husband understand his father much better. “She is somebody who always tries to see both sides of any dispute,” a source said. “She is a stabilising influence.”
The deep bond William and Kate share has shown they can endure hardships as well as tackle key issues facing the Royal Family. William is also supporting his wife as she continues her cancer treatment.
