Princess Charlotte, aged nine, is the proud owner of an affectionate nickname that has caught on among her friends and even been used by her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, in public.

Even the third in line to the British throne gets a nickname from friends, but don’t expect to hear Princess Charlotte being called “princess”.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are determined to give their daughter, now nine years old, as normal a life as they can. At her school, she’s known simply as Charlotte Cambridge, yet it’s her adorable pet name thats really caught on with classmates, according to a report by the Mirror.

Apparently, Charlotte’s chums have dubbed her Lottie Wales, nodding to her parents’ titles bestowed post-passing of the Queen by the King. This affectionate moniker isn’t just for the classroom, as proven by an event last year.

On a trip to Northern Ireland, Instagram influencer Laura-Ann got the chance to chat with Kate, alongside her two year old son George. During the encounter, Kate approached him with: “Hello, what’s your name? Hi George, what a cool name you’ve got, and you look very smart in your bowtie. It’s very nice to meet you.”

Belfast-based Laura-Ann, a 30 year old mum working part-time in real estate, was thrilled to see the Duke and Duchess at Windsor Park. She later took to Instagram to share moments from their interaction, revealing Kate referred to her daughter as “Lottie” whilst talking about her older son, reports Leicestershire Live.

Laura-Ann recounted: “So then she asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie’. She calls her Lottie.”

Katie Nicholl, the Royal correspondent for Vanity Fair, disclosed that Prince William and Kate have playfully named their daughter Charlotte “Warrior Princess” because of her feisty personality. The moniker became public after a 2018 incident where Kate was reportedly overhead calling her daughter “get up poppet” during a trip to The Range, with the events later detailed by an onlooker to the Daily Mail.

When it comes to fitting in at Thomas’s School in Battersea, Prince George is known simply as George among his classmates, a gesture towards normalcy by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

But within the family, Prince George is sometimes affectionately referred to as PG, which has evolved into the tongue-in-cheek nickname “Tips”, nodding to the popular brand of tea. Prince Louis also carries a charming nickname, having been christened “Boss Baby” by some fans attributing to his bold temperament.
