Queen Camilla steps up in significant role as she issues powerful statement
Queen Camilla takes on major task to mark important occasion in her royal position
Queen Camilla issued a warning as the royal put into focus a “daunting task”.
The Queen, known for her advocacy for women and their protection, stepped up in her role as the president of a global foundation dedicated to women, as she highlighted key figures.
To mark the 15th anniversary of the Women Of The World (Wow) Foundation, Camilla had welcomed influential women at the Buckingham Palace, including Victoria Beckham, lawyer Cherie Blair, actresses Ruth Jones and Sarah Lancashire also former footballer Jill Scott.
During her speech, Camilla noted that it has been “a very special fixture in my diary to host” the annual event around International Women’s Day and represent the charity around the world.
While highlighting significant women and their contributions, she noted that there are other who “can’t be named because the work that they do would put their lives, or the lives of those whom they support, in danger”.
“All of them have faced obstacles that could easily have intimidated them into a silent resignation to the status quo,” Camilla emphasised.
“As we look forward to the next 15 years, the task of forging a gender-equal world is a daunting one. At the current rate, globally, it will take an estimated 286 years to remove discriminatory laws, 140 years for women to hold half the positions of leadership in the workplace and 47 years to be represented equally in national parliaments,” she continued.
“But by following in the footsteps of these amazing women and girls who will not take ‘no’ for an answer, we members of the WOW family fervently hope that this will be achieved in a much shorter time.”
