Coco Gauff is great for tennis. She plays with poise and class and has seemingly been that way for a decade. But the WTA No. 3 is still only 19 years old. She has a lot of great tennis ahead of her, one hopes. She still needs to refine her game a bit, but her athleticism alone keeps her in matches when many other players would have been bounced out in straight sets.
She has been a popular player for a few years now, though. But after winning the 2023 US Open, that is when her global popularity soared. Imagine what would happen if she wins several more Grand Slams in the next couple of years. She is truly one of the next superstars of tennis as long as she keeps winning.
This week Gauff made the cover of Vogue not just because she is a fantastic tennis player but because she also has oodles of style. She posted the cover photo on her Instagram account and this got the attention of all-time great Roger Federer. But this would not be the first time.
Roger Federer gives more praise to Coco Gauff
Roger Federer has posted on her personal accounts before about Gauff. He admitted in late 2023, after Gauff had won the US Open, that he had been a fan for years and that it was great to see how hard Gauff worked to improve her game. Sure, Roger Federer has been one of the most well-liked people in tennis for decades and he, like Gauff, handles himself gracefully and rarely utters a harsh word about anyone.
But his admiration of Gauff seems extremely genuine. For sure Federer has no need to jump on the Gauff bandwagon in the rise of popularity she has had in the last six months. When Federer said on Gauff’s Instagram in response to her Vogue cover, “Go Coco! Congratulations! Well deserved!” he meant it.
Roger Federer’s outspokenness of another tennis player is just another example of his class. And Gauff deserves the admiration. In fact, she handles herself a lot like Federer on the court so maybe she will come close to the same level of success.
