Harry has not reached out to Kate Middleton during her ongoing recovery.

The royal drama saga continues, but this time, it’s between Kate Middleton and her brother-in-law Prince Harry. Following People’s report that Harry reached out to his brother, Prince William, during his U.K. visit to see King Charles amid his cancer diagnosis, royal expert Christopher Anderson added that William’s wife Kate allegedly wants “nothing to do” with the former royal either.

“I think there was once a relationship, a friendship, a very close one between Harry and Kate,” Anderson told Us Weekly. “I’m sure he’s concerned about her as well, but I know that she wants to have nothing to do with them.”

Despite Middleton’s surgery and ongoing recovery (and the bevy of social media conspiracy theories that followed), Anderson added that he doesn’t believe Harry has reached out to check in with his sister-in-law. “My understanding is he hasn’t, and it is a stalemate,” the author said. “They’re both on opposite sides of this wall, and nobody has the courage to leap over it and really make an honest attempt.”

“Every time he’s gone there, he’s been given the cold shoulder, and he’s aware of that,” Anderson added. “I think he fears it’ll just be the same situation all over.” Kate isn’t sweating Harry’s lack of concern, however. Anderson told the outlet that she has “her own problems now.”

Kate Middleton underwent a “planned” abdominal surgery in January and has since remained out of the spotlight. She was spotted for the first time since December earlier this week while riding in the passenger seat of a car with her mom, Carole Middleton, though the brief appearance hasn’t been enough to totally quiet the public’s qualms.
According to People, several royal experts think that Middleton’s absence is negatively impacting the monarchy. “She is their MVP, without any doubt,” royal historian Amanda Foreman told the publication. “She is in so many ways the most like the late Queen.”
Royal biographer Bedell Smith explained that both her and King Charles’s absence has left everyone too much “uncertainty” in the balance.

“Everybody feels unsettled by uncertainty, and there is too much uncertainty that is surrounding the monarchy right now,” he told People. “Queen Elizabeth used to say, ‘I need to be seen to be believed.’ It is important for Charles and his reign for the public to know a little bit more,” added the royal biographer.
