The golf market is currently undergoing some massive changes. With Tiger Woods calling it quits with Nike and many other golfers such as Jason Day switching their long-time apparel sponsors, everything seems to be in a confusing state of metamorphosis. However, one thing that might remain constant amid the ongoing chaos is the GOAT’s beloved tradition: His Sunday Red!
But how? Well, it is estimated that if the rumored shift of the golf great to Travis Mathews for his apparel choice turns out to be true, there are chances that he will continue his beloved age-old tradition on the greens.
Tiger Woods’s probable partnership with TravisMathews to assist his Sunday red tradition
Traditions are personal. They come with memories and are unique to one’s experiences in life. Similarly, the Sunday Red tradition has a special place in Woods’s heart. However, after an amicable split with Nike, it was expected that it would also mean an end to the 15x major champion wearing his red polos during the final rounds of the events.
But that may not be the case. The golf world talks are insinuating that the famous pro can sign a deal with TravisMathew, a brand with versatility at its core that weaves everyday apparel that can seamlessly transition from work to play. The famous pro was recently seen carrying a set of the brand’s clothes, thus adding fuel to this fire.
Interestingly enough, in a very well-timed fashion, the brand has also launched a variety of new red polos—a color that is close to their prospective ally’s heart. In a post on Twitter, the brand wrote a cryptic message that said, “Just dropping these here in case anyone out there happens to be looking for a new red polo.”
Is this the brand’s way of hinting at onboarding Tiger Woods, or is it just a marketing gimmick? Well, that’s a question only time can answer. But if this does come true, the famous pro might not have to let go of another important tradition if he joins the Ryan Ellis-led company. But why is this tradition so important to the 15-time major champion after all?
Why is the Sunday Red Tradition so close to the 48-year-old’s heart?
The PGAT sensation’s belief in wearing the color to succeed is a long one. It traces its roots back to his days as a junior golfer. Woods continued this ritual in high school and at Stanford, which eventually translated into a superstition that he holds dear. Talking about his favorite ritual, the 5X Masters Champ said, “I’ve worn red ever since my college days, basically, or junior golf days—big events on the last day. I just stuck with it out of superstition, and it worked.”
Tiger Woods has also given credit to his mother, Kutilda Woods, for helping him make this tradition a part of his life. Addressing the same, he said, “I wear red on Sundays because my mum thinks that’s my power color. You should always listen to your mom.”
It seems that the 82-time PGA Tour winner might not have to let go of his age-old practice, after all, thanks to the creative heads at TravisMathew. Do you love Woods’s Sunday red as much as we do? Let us know in the comments below!
