Almost a year after Serena Williams gave birth to her second child, the tennis star is sharing that she isn’t immune to postpartum insecurities. She’s been candid about weight loss goals on Instagram as of late, and most recently, she shared a video of her undergoing a “tummy” skin tightening procedure as a form of self-care.
Williams began her caption by explaining how difficult it’s been to prioritize herself as a new mom of two. “I finally started being ok to take an hour (during nap time 🙈) away from my kids and work to do something for myself,” she wrote. “On my last trip to Paris a girlfriend of mine treated me to a spa day. She knows after two babies I have been self conscious of my tummy.”
In the clip, Williams lays on a spa table while a technician lubes up her stomach and massages it with a device. “I am getting a type of radio frequency on my tummy and the results have been amazing,” she wrote. “I can see progress with my skin going back to normal and my confidence coming back.”

According to Cleveland Clinic, radio frequency skin tightening uses an electromagnetic device that generates heat to stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and new skin cells to lift and firm sagging skin. However, the results are temporary and usually last one to three years.
“My body will never be the same but neither will I cause I have two amazing lights in my life,” Williams continued in her post. “I will always love my birthing scars but I just wanted to say thanks to my friend Mia and Nat for letting me know it’s ok to take time for myself away from work and kids.”
At the end of her post, Williams encouraged others to share their self-care habits and open up about the difficulties of self-care in motherhood. Fans thanked her for her honesty. “A word all mothers need to hear and heed! Thanks for this message,” one person wrote. “So important to take quality ‘me time’ 🙌,” another added. “I just love how authentic and relatable you are,” someone else wrote.
Williams said that she would continue to post updates on her progress. We can always count on her to share the real deal!
