Red Bull has introduced a comprehensive upgrade package to the Hungaroring. This is an attempt to fend off the threat posed by rivals in recent races. The catch is that only Max Verstappen will receive the full upgrade for the weekend in Budapest. Then, what about Sergio Perez? If Perez only receives part of the upgrade, his Hungarian GP could turn into a nightmare. However, the Mexicans did a good job in FP2 today, finishing fifth.
Speaking with the media, Red Bull‘s chief engineer, Paul Monaghan, revealed that the package would be split across both cars “for the rest of the weekend.” Moreover, Monaghan claims that the difference between Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s car would be “mainly the sidepod shape.” The engineer also denied that the team’s weekend run plan would be impacted by Perez’s alternate configuration.
“Is it more work? No, not really, because you do the two cars anyway,” said Paul in his interview. It is also confirmed that Checo has the new floor that was first introduced in Silverstone. Monaghan further stated: “So the fact it’s a slightly different shape is not going to change our world. So it doesn’t change how we try to optimize it.” Perez’s performance will depend on how the upgrades work out for him.

Sergio Perez must maximize his performance. Amidst the heat in the Red Bull garage, the race to get the second seat continues. Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo are emerging as top contenders to replace Perez. His only way out of this peril is by proving himself to Christian Horner and Helmut Marko.
What does Red Bull’s massive upgrade have in store for Sergio Perez?
Ahead of the Hungarian GP, Max Verstappen strongly claimed that this new upgrade was all or nothing for them. If it fails, then it would become nearly impossible for them to cope with other teams for the rest of the season. The car has changes all over, including two specific to the engine cover and the halo. The team reshaped the side pods and modified the engine cover to improve cooling efficiency for Budapest’s high temperatures.
Verstappen is speculated to receive the complete upgrade package. Perez will also get his share. It is only a matter of time before the right upgrades uplift the team’s overall performance. And as believed, warmer temperatures have been favorable for Red Bull. So, Budapest could be the circuit where the Red Bull duo comes back to the top. If Perez succeeds in reviving himself in Hungary, and then once again in Belgium next week, no force of the universe could take away his seat. Not even Liam Lawson’s and Daniel Ricciardo’s impressive performance too won’t be enough.
Fans are eagerly waiting for the Mexican to show what he can do in the cockpit. Perez’s experience in the sport is the key to his success at Hungaroring. As the stage sets for Sunday’s showdown, fans highly anticipate Sergio Perez’s performance. All eyes would be on how the upgrades work for Perez. It has been so far so good for Red Bull in Hungary, but- Will Checo make his comeback? What do you think?
