Sergio Perez is currently without a contract for the 2025 Formula 1 season as he bids to convince Red Bull to retain him beyond the ongoing campaign.
Sergio Perez has asserted securing his Formula 1 future is not his “main priority” despite not having a deal in place for 2025.

Perez’s current contract with Red Bull expires at the end of the ongoing campaign.

The Mexican driver’s future was in the air ahead of the season after he endured a difficult 2023 campaign while team-mate Max Verstappen dominated en route to a third world championship.

With Lewis Hamilton and Nico Hulkenberg already confirming they will be switching teams next year, further developments in the driver market are expected soon.

Perez admitted he is not overly concerned about his future, hinting he has more options than Red Bull available to him.

“I think like everyone that hasn’t done a contract, that is not signed, until you don’t have that in paper fully signed, then everything remains an option,” Perez told media including eurosportplux.com.

“So right now, it’s not really the main priority.”

New contract ‘a matter of time’
Compared to his 2023 form, Perez has enjoyed a stronger start to the current campaign.

The 34-year-old has scored four podiums in the opening six races, including a trio of second-place finishes.

Perez is confident that if he performs at a satisfactory level, a contract beyond the 2024 campaign will naturally follow.

“We are in a period of time, obviously the driver’s market is making things to go a lot earlier, with Lewis joining Ferrari early in the year, it meant that everyone is looking for the best possible option they can get.

“But I believe it’s just a matter of time. And, yeah, obviously right now the priority is on the season, it’s on the races, it’s preparing the races with the team and the rest will take care of itself.”
