The gymnastics world champion shared a bit of her new perspective while on the "Today" show Thursday
Following her triumph in the all-around competition at the World Championships, securing four more medals, and having a fifth skill named after her, Simone Biles is in an excellent position for the Paris Olympics.
But two years after walking away from international competition to focus on her mental health, the iconic athlete has also gained perspective.
“Gymnastics is just something I get to come in and have the privilege of doing,” the 26-year-old seven-time Olympic medalist said on the Today show Thursday. “I don’t feel like it’s the end all be all anymore, as before I kind of felt like that. I get to go home to my husband, to my dogs, to my house and all of the things. So it feels really good.”
Wearing one of her latest accessories around her neck, a sparkly necklace with the name “Owens,” Biles also gave a hint about her immediate fall and winter plans — supporting her husband, Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens.
“It’s been really fun supporting what he loves to do,” Biles said. “Obviously, he’s in Green Bay right now so my season just ended. I’m super excited to get out there to Green Bay for the holidays to support him.”
And while the world might be watching to see if Taylor Swift will be in attendance at the Kansas City Chiefs-Packers game on December 3, Biles shared that it is on her schedule.
“I’d like to see you and Taylor,” co-host Hota Kotb said. “It’d be really cute, it’d be a nice photo opp.”
She added, “Let’s just try to have a moment there if we can, okay?”
Biles replied, laughing: “Yes, okay.”
Earlier this week, the gymnast shared on Instagram an update on another front: the new Houston-area home she and Owens are building.
In a series of photos posted to Biles’ Instagram Story on Monday, the athlete gave her followers an update on the construction.
The first snap revealed the unfinished exterior of her abode that was still covered in plaster and surrounded by leveled dirt. “Tiles are in,” she captioned the photo.
Biles and Owens first teased they were building a house together in September when she posted a carousel of photos captioned, “Loading… 🏠🤍🛠.”
The post included a photo of the pair holding hands at the construction site along with a shot of Owens walking through the empty hallways of his soon-to-be pad.
