2024 was a huge year for Simone Biles, as she made her triumphant return to the Olympic Games. Biles won four medals in Paris last summer, including three golds.
The victories made her the most decorated gymnast of all time when accounting for her world championship medals. She is the only gymnast in history to win multiple all-around gold medals in a non-consecutive span, taking home the gold in 2024 after also winning back in 2016.
After such a monumental year, Biles is taking some well deserved time off in the new year. She was spotted at several of her husband’s NFL games with the Chicago Bears, and she made a special appearance at a college gymnastics meet on Friday.
Biles was in attendance at the University of Georgia’s Stegeman Coliseum for the program’s home opener this season. Biles appeared at the meet with her husband, Bears defensive back Jonathan Owens.
Her appearance appeared to bring good luck for the team, as they defeated Boise State by a score of 196.825 to 193.600.
“Second meet of the season, and I’m super pleased with the girls, the attitude, and the work. We’re almost a point higher than last week, and I think it’s good for the confidence,” said Georgia’s co-head coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, who invited Biles to Friday night’s meet.
Canqueteau-Landi and her husband Laurent have been personal coaches for Biles since 2017. Before her time at Georgia, she worked at the World Champions Center gymnastics academy owned by Biles and her family. She has also worked with several top college gymnasts over her career, including former UCLA star Katelyn Ohashi, Briley Casanova and Alyssa Baumann.
Canqueteau-Landi is also a former gymnast herself, and competed at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta while representing France. She is now a co-head coach at Georgia with Ryan Roberts.
Georgia improved to 2-2 on the season with the win over Boise State, and they will take on Florida in SEC conference action next Friday, this time on the road in Gainesville. Fans who want to watch can tune in on the SEC Network at 6:30 PM ET.
