The late Queen knew it was vital for the Royal Family that a new member would bring increased stability to the unit following several turbulent years with Princess Diana

The late Queen welcomed Kate, Princess of Wales into the Royal Family for understandable reasons that would support the monarchy going into the future.

Kate is one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, having earned support from Brits and many others across the globe for her calm nature. This key trait was also noticed by the late Queen who was delighted to welcome Kate into the family due to her apparent lack of drama.

The Queen recognised the need to bring down any heat in the monarchy which had recovered its favourability with the British public following criticism of its handling of Princess Diana’s death. Kate’s qualities were, in fact, something the Queen knew would stabilise the monarchy for decades.

“The Duchess always appeared to be calm and circumspect. Her Majesty was drawn to her sensible approach when she arrived on the scene,” wrote Robert Jobson, in his new book ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A biography’. He wrote for MailOnline. “She found her very polite and good-natured, and she liked the way she interacted with members of the family. She seemed very at ease.”

Behind closed doors, the Queen offered Kate any help that she could to make her feel as welcome as possible. She ended up personally guiding Kate on what should be expected of her, not only in public – but also in court.

“She’s been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views,” Kate said when she reflected on her relationship with the late Queen. “But I feel she’s been there, a gentle guidance, really, for me.”

Kate has now established herself as a key member of the Royal Family and is considered one of its well-liked additions in decades. There was a huge outpouring of support and sympathy when she announced earlier this year that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

She has said treatment has been going well, but had withdrawn from many royal duties. She was greeted with a standing ovation at Centre Court at this year’s Wimbledon tournament where she congratulated Carlos Alcaraz after winning the men’s competition.
