While Kate Middleton, 42, is recovering at home in Windsor from her abdominal surgery, the British royal family has just shared an array of throwback photos taken of the Princess of Wales, her husband, Prince William, 41, and their oldest son, Prince George, during a past royal engagement.

King Charles, who was also discharged from the hospital this week after undergoing surgery for his enlarged prostate, announced the return of the national volunteer initiative “The Big Help Out” earlier this morning, which was a huge success last year, especially during the king’s coronation weekend.

In a new photo slideshow posted on the royal family’s Instagram page, the monarch, 75, shared the exciting news in a new statement. Alongside a photo of the king, the message read, “I am delighted to support the return of the Big Help Out in 2024.”

The statement continued, “This summer, between June 7th and June 9th, there will be another opportunity to join so many dedicated volunteers in giving time to a worthy cause of their choosing, whether that is supporting a local food bank, tending a community garden, spending time with a vulnerable person or teaching a skill to a young person.”

Also included in the slideshow were pictures of Princess Catherine, Prince William and Prince George participating in last year’s “The Big Help Out” event in Slough, England.

Back in May 2023, the Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by their three children—George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5—to lend a helping hand to the 3rd Upton Scout Group with their volunteer efforts. In one snap of the slideshow above, Catherine can be seen shoveling dirt. Another pic shows William and George trying to operate a yellow excavator. Even more pics from the event were posted in a slideshow last year, and they feature Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte as well.

With the national volunteer event returning this year, we can’t help but wonder: Will Catherine be able to participate? For now, we don’t know. While the princess is still in recovery, she won’t be able to take part in any royal engagements from now until at least Easter, which was shared in the Kensington Palace statement released on January 17. In the meantime, we just have to wait for further updates.
