Tiger Woods wears red because his mother advised him on astrology.
One of the most exciting stories in sports this year has transpired outside of the field of play. Earlier this month, Tiger Woods teamed up with TaylorMade to launch the standalone brand Sun Day Red.
Although Woods’ outing at The Genesis Invitational was cut short due to influenza, that did not stop the golf legend from debuting his new apparel and footwear on the golf course.
Sun Day Red has done a commendable job of creating a narrative for itself as a brand over the past few weeks, and that continued with an interesting anecdote from Tiger Woods.

Sun Day Red shared a video of Tiger Woods explaining why he chose to wear red and stand out on the course. Woods pointed to his mother, Kultida, for the sartorial choice. “I wear red on Sundays because my mom said that a Capricorn’s power color is red, and as a junior, I wore red one time, and she said, ‘Yeah, see, that is your color.'”
Tiger Woods went on to explain he tried blue once and lost, so he went back to red and stuck with it ever since. It would also explain the meaning of the brand’s name. ‘Sun’ represents Woods playing outside. ‘Day’ because he plays almost every day. ‘Red’ is a nod to his mother.
Sun Day Red will launch its first line of apparel for men on May 1. It will be made available online in the United States and Canada. Over time, Sun Day Red will expand its availability in key markets outside of North America, at retail, and broaden its product offering to include footwear, women’s and kids’ lines.
