Tiger Woods recently stirred major buzz in the golf world by turning down the opportunity to captain the USA’s Ryder Cup team in 2025. The golf legend spoke about his decision following the announcement that Keegan Bradley would be the captain of the U.S. team.
“With my new responsibilities to the Tour and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain,” Woods said. “That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future. If and when I feel it is the right time, I will put my hat in the ring for this committee to decide.”
The Ryder Cup is organized by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe. It involves a match between the top golf players from the U.S. and Europe, which is scheduled for Sept. 26–28, 2025.
Woods has participated in four events during the 2024 PGA Tour season. His first match of the year came in the Genesis Invitational, where he withdrew his name after scoring two shots over par.
The golf legend’s last three matches were all majors: The Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. The 48-year-old Woods earned a $44,000 purse from The Masters while missing the final cut for both the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.
Many believed Woods would be the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, but as the veteran golfer explained, his focus is currently on the PGA Tour.
