Earlier this year, Serena Williams welcomed her second child, named Adira, to the world. The young one was greeted amid much fanfare and anticipation by the entire tennis community. Serena’s elder sister, Venus Williams, had been waiting for Adira very eagerly. It could be seen from her reactions at Serena’s baby’s gender-reveal party that went viral. Recently, Venus revealed how she adjusted life to Serena being a first-time and a second-time mother.
Although Venus was by Serena’s side during her pregnancy, she couldn’t be with Serena after Adira’s birth owing to her US Open commitments. Here’s how Venus compared the experiences post the birth of Serena’s first and second child.
Venus Williams talks about a major life change
A few hours ago, Venus summed up her 2023 year in a new video that was released on her official YouTube channel. She gave major life updates that were of prime importance. Talking on this subject, the elder Williams sister went on to reveal how life had changed after the birth of Olympia and Adira, Serena’s two daughters.
Opening up about this, Venus said, “It’s an interesting experience the second time around because seeing Serena like my sister and seeing her be a mom, I have to say it took me years to get, not get used to it, but it’s like it’s surreal. It’s like, oh my God, there’s a baby here, oh my God, Serena’s a mom and it’s like, oh it’s like it’s this whole new thing and it’s beautiful.”
Further, she went on to add, “But it takes a while to like really like wow you know so it’s all positive but the second time around it’s like you’re not as in like wow wow you’re like yeah it’s here and it’s so beautiful and everybody’s like I think all of us are much more ready to to take this on and you learn so much the first time around and the second time you can just be so much more prepared.”
Venus has had a close bond with Serena and Alexis. She also went on to reveal if she was involved in the naming of Serena’s second child.
Was Venus involved in naming Adira?
The birth of Serena’s second child was around the same time as the US Open. As Venus was participating in her home Grand Slam tournament, she couldn’t be with the family during Adira’s birth. Recently, she also revealed her involvement in giving a name to Serena’s second daughter.
Venus Williams said, “I did not carry her for nine months and I don’t change her diaper every day although I would I really would so I stayed out of it and she has a beautiful name.”
Now a family of 4, life has indeed changed for Serena. While spending quality time with her family, Serena often shares adorable glimpses of her newborn. Certainly, she’s enjoying her post-retirement life and quite deservedly so.
