Prior to starting back-to-back WTA 1000 competitions, the WTA Tour’s top player also took a break from the game and was spotted sightseeing in California.
She posted photos to Instagram throughout her break keeping fans in the loop.
Swiatek successfully defended her Qatar Open title, making up for her early departure in the Australian Open at the hands of Linda Noskova. On her way to winning the first WTA 1000 of the year, she never dropped a set.
The Pole was headed to another final at the Dubai Tennis Championships when Anna Kalinskaya defeated her 6-4, 6-4 to end her winning streak.
Iga Swiatek thought back on her Middle Eastern swing performance on social media. She expressed her enjoyment of the difficulties and her pride in her team’s ability to bounce back from an early defeat in the Australian Open of 2024.
“So…my main thought is that I enjoyed the challenge and solving problems but now I’m glad to have some time to recover. Intense two tournaments, resilience, focus, some quality matches and great fights. Overall I’m proud of myself and my team for these few weeks post-Melbourne,” Swiatek wrote on her social media.
The top-ranked player in the world expressed her excitement for the Indian Wells Open. She also acknowledged Anna Kalinskaya and Jasmine Paolini on their successful stints in the Middle East.
“We did our best, I performed well, kept my standards high and I’m looking forward to sunny California. And let me say this again, what a week for Jasmine and Anna. Excited to see more players having deep runs and performing well,” Swiatek added.
After winning the Sunshine Double in 2022, the World No 1 took a step back last year at Indian Wells and Miami. Swiatek lost to Elena Rybakina in the California semifinals and then withdrew from Miami due to a rib ailment.
