A nor’easter may hit the East Coast this weekend and into next week, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, rough surf and coastal flooding.

While the track is uncertain, there’s an increasing likelihood for a significant coastal storm, with direct impacts possible for major Northeast cities.

The storm is expected to develop by the weekend off the Southeast coast.

The storm might grow stronger and move quickly up the East Coast, hitting Maryland, the Jersey Shore, Philadelphia, New York City, Long Island, Connecticut and Boston on Sunday and Monday.

Or the storm could move slowly and target the coasts of the Carolinas, Maryland and Delaware.

The path will become clearer later in the week.

But in either case, the coast of the Carolinas will likely get localized flash flooding, wind gusts nearing 40 to 60 mph, tidal flooding and potentially significant beach erosion.
