Carlos Alcaraz is flourishing back on court for the first time in 2024 as he continues his bid for Australian Open glory this month.

The Spanish sensation is back in action after not playing at a tournament since losing to Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals in November.

Alcaraz was forced to pull out of this event last year due to injury but he is fighting fit for this edition and will be aiming to get his hands on another major.

He is alongside Djokovic once again as one of the favourites to lift the trophy while Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev are sure to put up a challenge.

Alcaraz began his Australian Open with a convincing 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Richard Gasquet on Tuesday.

The World No. 2 has since got past Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego and China’s Juncheng Shang
He will now Miomir Kecmanovic for a spot in the quarter-finals on Monday, January 22 – but a start time is yet to be confirmed.

Alcaraz is eyeing a third major title at the age of 20 as he competes in Melbourne looking to go all the way.

What has been said?
“It is not the way anybody wants to move on,” Alcaraz said after his opponent Shang retired with injury in their third-round match.

“I missed the tournament last year,” he said. “I was watching the matches at home from the couch, wishing to play in the second week here.

“It feels special.”
