Andy Murray has announced his withdrawal from the singles competition at the Paris Olympics but will still compete in the doubles event.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist in singles made this decision to focus on his doubles partnership with Dan Evans.
Murray, the former world number one from Britain, recently underwent back surgery and has not fully recovered. Believing that the doubles event presents his best chance for another medal, Murray explained his choice.
He said: “I’ve taken the decision to withdraw from the singles to concentrate on the doubles with Dan. Our practice has been great, and we’re playing well together. Really looking forward to getting started and representing GB one more time.”
Andy Murray, 37, won gold in singles at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, and silver in mixed doubles with Laura Robson in 2012.
His last singles match was a brief second-round appearance at Queen’s Club against Jordan Thompson, which he had to abandon due to a spinal cyst.
