A major surprise occurred in the second round of WTA Cincinnati 2024 with Coco Gauff as the protagonist. The American, who was defending her title in the tournament, was eliminated in the first round by Yulia Putintseva with a score of 6-4, 2-6, and 6-4 in 1 hour and 55 minutes of play. After only managing one win in Toronto, Coco will arrive at the US Open as the defending champion with barely any match rhythm due to her disappointing level.
On the other hand, living up to her role as the favorite was Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Elisabetta Cocciareto in two sets with a score of 6-3 and 6-4 to advance to the round of 16, where she will face Elina Svitolina.
