The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who was fatally shot by police Thursday morning near the Queen’s Medical Center as Sonny Siofele.
The 50-year-old Honolulu man died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police responded to a call reporting a man with a gun who was “expressing suicidal thoughts, Interim Police Chief Rade Vanic said at a news conference
Siofele, who was on the sidewalk on Punchbowl Street, pulled a revolver out of his waistband and pointed it at two Honolulu Police Department officers before the officers shot at Siofele, a convicted felon, Vanic said.
He was taken into Queen’s and treated, but died of his injuries.
