Ruthie Henshall, the Duke of Edinburgh’s former girlfriend, recently published a memoir.

Prince Edward, the youngest brother of King Charles III, and his past love life has drawn fresh interest among fans after his former girlfriend Ruthie Henshall appeared in the media to promote her newly released memoir.

Prince Edward is married to the Duchess Sophie and the couple have two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.

They tied the knot on June 19, 1999, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Opening up about her relationship with Edward, the British actress said it stood “no chance” of lasting.

Appearing on Sunday Brunch, the West End favourite discussed her newly released memoir, The Showgirl and the Prince.

Their relationship, which lasted on and off for five years, began in 1988 while Henshall was performing in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats.

Henshall said that the relationship was ultimately doomed because a lasting union between a working actress and a member of the Royal Family was simply too difficult to manage.

During the interview, Ruthie Henshall revealed that she remains “in touch” with the Duke of Edinburgh.

The actress and singer also disclosed how the Duke of Edinburgh reacted when she informed him about the offer of a publishing deal, and that Edward “would be in it”.

“He just said, ‘Thanks for letting me know’,” she explained
