Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband and co-founder of Reddit, shared his joy when he found out that Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast, turned down the opportunity to ride OceanGate’s Titan submersible.
On June 18, 2023, OceanGate’s submersible named Titan tragically imploded while descending. The submersible was carrying five passengers who were on a tourist expedition to observe the wreckage of the Titanic.
Following an exhaustive search lasting nearly 80 hours, a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) located a debris field containing fragments of the Titan. The debris was discovered around 500 meters away from the bow of the Titanic.
Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast, recently shared on Twitter that he was offered an invitation to join OceanGate’s Titan submersible. He posted a screenshot of a text message, presumably from one of the passengers, outlining the expedition to the renowned Titanic wreckage site and extending an invitation for him to participate in the voyage.
However, the 25-year-old Donaldson politely declined the invitation to join the ill-fated submersible.
“I was invited earlier this month to ride the Titanic submarine, but I declined. Kind of scary that I could have been on it,” MrBeast tweeted, reflecting on his decision.
In response to MrBeast’s decision to decline the invitation, Alexis Ohanian expressed relief on Twitter, stating that he and others were glad about the choice made by the YouTuber.
“We’re all thrilled you turned it down, dude,” Ohanian tweeted.

We all left feeling inspired. The last time I visited was 20 years ago as a financially struggling college student among thousands of visitors—this was a truly surreal night),” Ohanian tweeted.
Ohanian excitedly shared his delightful experience on Twitter, accompanied by an adorable picture of Olympia striking a pose in front of a painting.
