Due to back issues, Andy Murray had to retire in the second round of Queen’s Club Championships.
British tennis star Andy Murray is set to undergo a procedure on his back only a week before the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

The two-time Wimbledon champion was forced to retire during his second-round match at the Queen’s Club Championships against Australia’s Jordan Thompson earlier this week. Murray was also seen taking a medical timeout before he retired from the match.

However, it was a concerning sight for all tennis enthusiasts, as the Wimbledon Championships are scheduled to start on July 1. The 37-year-old has already stated that he’s aiming to retire at Wimbledon or the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thus, if he misses the grass-court Grand Slam, it would be a sad end to his tennis career.

However, fans have got a heads-up about the Brit’s unity. BBC sports news correspondent Laura Scott has revealed that Murray will be having a procedure on his back.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist is also set to participate at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He has been named in Great Britain’s squad for the sporting megafest alongside Jack Draper, Daniel Evans, and Cameron Norrie.

However, the Olympics will take place at Stade Roland Garros, and a sudden change of surface can cause more problems for Andy Murray, keeping in mind his injury-prone past. Nevertheless, he’s also the only tennis player in history to defend an Olympic gold medal.

Apart from Murray, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is also uncertain to play at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. He underwent surgery on his right knee for a meniscus tear. The Serb has already started training; returning in a short period after surgery is a difficult task.

Another tennis icon, Rafael Nadal, has decided to miss the grass court Major as he stated that his body won’t allow him to change the surface in a short time. Thus, he chose to play in the Olympics, where he will also partner with Carlos Alcaraz to play in the men’s doubles event.
