HAWAII COUNTY (HawaiiNewsNow) – Residents in Hakalau and South Kohala are under a Water Conservation Notice due to drought conditions, according to water officials.

The Department of Water Supply (DWS) alerted Hakalau residents of the notice Tuesday.

Impacted areas include:

  • Along Hawaii Belt Road between the 14- and 15.5-mile markers
  • Mamalahoa Highway
  • Chin Chuck Road
  • Hanamalo Loop
  • Hakalau
  • South Hilo

DWS also reminded South Kohala residents of their ongoing notice.

Impacted areas include:

  • Ahualoa to Waiemi subdivision
  • Honokaia
  • Puukapu
  • Nienie
  • Waimea Town
  • Lalamilo Farm Lots
  • Portions of Mana Road
  • Anekona Estates
  • Kanehoa subdivision

Officials request that residents reduce water usage by at least 10% by:

  • Washing only full loads of laundry and dishes
  • Check faucets and pipes for leaks
  • Do not let water run when washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth
  • Reduce showering times
