ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) — Prosecutors and family members are searching for answers after a young mom was found dead in an apartment in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Christina Burdette, 34, was pronounced dead in the 2000 block of Sheridan Avenue on Saturday morning.
Burdette’s mother and sister are mourning her sudden and tragic loss while also looking for answers as to who would kill the mother of two.
“She was beautiful. My daughter was a lovely girl. Everybody loved her,” said her mother, Stephanie Abeulkabiir.
Family members say Burdette was known as a sweet, quiet soul.
“She didn’t bother anybody. She was mainly about her children,” said her sister, Nicole Burdette. “You would have thought, because she was so to herself and so angelic and her own little person, she would have died from old age.”

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, but the cause remains under investigation.
“They said she looked like she was in a fight. She has bruises all over her body,” said Nicole.
Nicole added that Burdette’s head was wrapped in gauze.
Nicole does not know why Burdette was at the apartment, but she said it’s home to her children’s father’s relative.
“We don’t quite know what’s going on,” said Nicole. “We don’t want to point fingers because we don’t know, but at the same time, it’s very sketchy.”
Burdette’s family said now her kids, ages 3 and 6, are without parents after their father died a few years ago.
As they prepare to lay Burdette to rest, they urge anyone with information about her death to speak up.
“Get justice for my daughter,” said Abeulkabiir. “She did not deserve to go out the way she did.”
“If it was your daughter or your son or something happened to your child or your kids, ya’ll would want the same exact help, and as a community we should all work together,” said Nicole.
