HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu is hosting its annual Filipino Food Week Hawaii from Oct. 18-25 with more than 20 chefs participating.

Among the chefs taking part is Rob Vasquez, chef-owner of Mama’s Boy at Hana Kitchens. He joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about his globally inspired catering company that seeks to spread goodwill through good food.

Vasquez served in the Army for over 23 years as an Army lawyer, and after retiring, he decided to pursue a passion he originally put on hold.

He earned a degree in culinary arts at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community College.

Vasquez said he started Mama’s Boy to preserve memories of his mom’s cooking and share the cuisine of his family and the region of Bicol.

Filipino Food Week Hawaii is among several celebrations during Filipino American History Month. The Filipino Community Center will host a special Kamayan dinner on Oct. 19. Click here for more information on Filipino Food Week.
