Deputies arrested a 16-year-old at Riverview High School Friday after a campus fight led to the discovery of a kitchen knife in his backpack.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), during school hours, administrators at Riverview High School were made aware of a fight on campus. In addition to the fight, deputies say they were also made aware that a student, 16-year-old Elred Hardy III, had a weapon.

A search of his backpack revealed that Hardy had a kitchen-style fixed blade in his backpack, per deputies.

A subsequent investigation exposed that Hardy made threats towards another boy due to an argument over a girl.

Deputies found probable cause to book hardy for counts of possession of a weapon on school property and disrupting school campus or function.
