Tiger Woods had a no-nonsense reaction to those critiquing his relationship with Vanessa Trump.
After going public with Vanessa in late March – receiving the full support of his children – Woods took to social media to announce his new partner while calling for respect for their privacy. Ivanka Trump was among those to react to the announcement.
Continuing his romance with Vanessa and even adopting stringent PDA guidelines, Woods has brushed off worries raised by his inner circle about the potential impact of dating someone linked to the U.S. President. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, has shared the five-word message he received from Woods after winning the Masters last month.
To the dismay of some, the golf icon had a terse four-word retort to the concerns. “F— what people think,” was Woods’ blunt reply to suggestions that his involvement with a Vanessa might tarnish his image, as per a source close to the golfer speaking to the Daily Mail.
The source elaborated that Woods plays it down the middle politically, emphasizing that although his girlfriend is from a political household, Woods pays no mind to how it may shape public perception.
“He didn’t care one bit,” the insider continued. “You can’t really tell Tiger to do something he doesn’t want to do. And he felt like this was an important enough relationship to go public with.
“If someone has a problem, that’s on them, not him. He still doesn’t think of it as being anything political – she’s his girlfriend who happens to have the Trump last name.”
Woods, while originally public about his connection with Vanessa, has kept a low profile on the matter, rarely mentioning their association. Even his Instagram announcement of being in a relationship with the 47-year-old was concise and non-provocative: “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side!
“We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.”
His children were informed about the relationship and allegedly “liked” Trump. U.S. President Donald Trump shared his feelings about his friend Woods dating someone he knows well.
When asked by journalists as he was engaged in presidential duties, Trump commented: “I love Tiger, and I love Vanessa. Tiger actually called me a few months ago. I have a very special relationship with Tiger. He’s a fanatic guy. I said, ‘Tiger that’s good. I’m very happy for both.'”
In a show of support, Vanessa recently took to social media to cheer on Woods. Following the star’s collaboration with Augusta National, Vanessa didn’t hesitate to share the news on her Instagram page, giving a shoutout to the 49-year-old’s TGR Foundation.
