Tiger Woods has been told he shouldn’t retire despite his health issues, with the legendary golfer having been spotted hitting balls on the range.

The 15-time major champion is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest player that’s ever graced the sport of golf after what has been nearly a 30-year career filled with accomplishments.

However, Woods’ career in recent years has seen the 49-year-old deal with several back and lower leg injuries that has seen him go under the knife several times. While he did enjoy a career resurgence after stunningly winning the Masters in 2019, he hasn’t come close to adding to his major tally since.

While he aimed to make a triumphant return to Augusta in April, his dreams were dashed after rupturing his Achilles the month before the tournament began.

After undergoing surgery in March, Woods has since been inactive but despite his failure to stay healthy, Ryder Cup hero Sam Torrance believes it’s not yet time to call time on his career.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror US, on behalf of Lottoland, when asked whether it’s time for Woods to say goodbye to golf, he answered: “Absolutely not. There’s one thing I’ve learned over the years with Tiger Woods, never say never. I believe he is just the most extraordinary golfer we’ve ever had.

“Nicklaus’ record is better, he was my hero, but Tiger Woods brought a different level of golf to the world. He is capable of anything.”

While Torrance didn’t profess to know about Woods’ current condition, he did reveal he’s seen him in action on range and questioned whether he’d be lined up for a special role at the Ryder Cup in September.

“I don’t know about his fitness or his health, how good it is, but I still see him out on the range hitting balls,” he added.

“And I’d love to see him come back. Who knows, maybe he’ll be captaining the Ryder Cup if Bradley takes it. Who knows, if Bradley plays.”

While he won’t be present at Portrush for The Open Championship next week, Woods made sure to hand a warning to tournament favorites Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler on what they must do for the best chance of victory.

He urged: “They have to have the ability to control the ball. It’s just amazing what they call a wee breeze, right?

“You just have to hit different shots on golf courses… because they are on seaside. Depends on the tide, it changes the wind. And it’s amazing what that little change can do.”
