Max Verstappen has been the dominant force in Formula 1 over the last two years, securing victory in 28 out of 38 races since the beginning of the 2022 season. In the Red Bull’s Mind Set Win podcast, he delves deeper into his anticipation for a Grand Prix weekend, a perspective that differs from his father Jos Verstappen’s previous stance.
Max Verstappen is not kidding himself
“I just enjoy what I’m doing,” Verstappen begins in the podcast. “I’ve been doing it now for a few years, but I also don’t really make myself crazy or put a lot of questions in my head. Like ‘what do I have to do tomorrow? What is the plan, the strategy? all these kinds of things. I just go with the flow and this really works for me”
That Verstappen just goes along with the flow during a Grand Prix weekend, father Jos did not always agree. “Back in the day, I had quite a few arguments with my dad about it. He felt that I was always too relaxed about it. He wanted me to be more on top of things,” the Dutchman told about his father.
Max Verstappen: “Am still pretty much the same”
Despite Jos Verstappen wanting his son to handle race weekends differently, the two-time world champion says he has not changed very much as a result of the discussions. “I think I learned a lot from having the conversations with him, but I’m still pretty much the same.”
“I think my dad is more hyped up than I am in the lead up to a Grand Prix. Because for me, I only really get excited when I jump in the car,” concluded Verstappen. Next weekend, the Qatar Grand Prix is on the programme and this is where the Dutchman can go to secure his third consecutive title. Last Grand Prix weekend in Japan, Verstappen already grabbed the constructors’ title with Red Bull Racing.
