Max Verstappen is building up to the new F1 season, in which the Dutchman looking to win his fourth successive championship, with the star being given the chance to drive his new car on Tuesday
Max Verstappen’s tip about the livery of Red Bull ‘s car for the 2024 season appears to have been proven correct.
Max Verstappen has won the last three world championships, finishing first in 19 of F1’s 22 races last term. The Dutchman dominated throughout the season and ended up 290 points ahead of closest challenger Sergio Perez.
With no major rule changes incoming, Red Bull are again expected to dominate the season. They look set to do so in colours that have changed little since the team entered the sport in 2005.
The Red Bull cars now renowned for their navy, yellow and red colour scheme, which they have used for much of the last 19 years. That livery again looks set to be used in the upcoming season.
The new car, named the RB20, has been pictured on track at Silverstone as the team gears up for its official launch on Thursday. Verstappen and team-mate Perez were able to give the new challenger a shakedown on Tuesday to get some lap-time before the launch.
Those pictures show the RB20 looks strikingly similar to the team’s previous dominant car. That will come as little surprise to Verstappen, who had told fans during a live stream: “Oh yeah, it’s going to look exactly the same.”
One of his friends responded: “Well no, everyone else who has already released their car doesn’t have any paint on their car, just carbon.” But Verstappen reiterated his claims, stating with a chuckle: “Yeah I tell you, it’s going to look exactly the same.”
Red Bull design chief Adrian Newey has branded the new car the “third evolution” of the team’s RB18 effort, which took part in the 2022 season. Verstappen is hopeful for another successful year, though believes McLaren could come back stronger.
“We were the only team that was really consistent [in 2023]. Behind us, it was really up and down, one team second, then another team… That’s where the battle was quite close behind us,” he told the Talking Bulls podcast at the start of last month.
“It will all depend on how much they will improve in the winter time. The one I think that was most impressive behind us from where they started to where they ended was definitely McLaren. It looks like they might be very strong next year.
“Every year is a little bit different. It also depends, of course, on how good the car is going to be. But I think you also just rely a lot on your experience, you’ve experienced already a lot in your career and in F1.
“And you know that if you want to fight for a championship, the most important thing is the car. Beside that, your performances need to be very consistent and that’s something you have to try and achieve again. Every single year is a new challenge to try and do that.”
