Prince William

Prince William, 43 years old, has had a week full of public engagements in London, but one of them has drawn special attention. During his visit to Lambeth, the heir to the throne let slip a few words about his children’s education that have moved many. Although it wasn’t the main purpose of the event, his statements have become the most talked-about point of the day.

William visited the Oasis Village community center to learn about the work of the youth organization Spiral Skills, supported by his own foundation, Homewards. There, he appeared approachable, smiling, and willing to talk with the young people participating in their programs. What exactly did he say about his three children that’s causing so much discussion?

Prince William reveals the skill he wants his children to develop
William’s visit to Lambeth is part of the ongoing efforts he carries out through Homewards, the initiative he launched in 2023 to fight homelessness. This time, he wanted to see how one of the organizations benefiting from his funds, Spiral Skills, had used the support to renovate their facilities and expand their reach among young people.

The chosen location for the visit, Oasis Village, is no coincidence. This historic building was opened as a school in 1999 by Queen Elizabeth II, William’s grandmother. Today, transformed into a community center, it hosts various social and cultural initiatives.

Creative programs are developed there, such as music workshops, which aim to offer young people a future far from exclusion. Against this backdrop, William didn’t hesitate to get involved with the attendees, also sharing an intimate side of his family life.

During the tour, Prince William entered the center’s music studio, where a group of teenagers were rehearsing under the coordination of Symphony Studios. It was in that setting that the future king confessed that he makes sure his three children are learning music because he considers it “crucial”.

The conversation arose when Django Brooke, a 16-year-old, asked him if he wanted to try the drums. William, laughing, declined the invitation: “I’m definitely not a drummer, if my youngest son were here, he’d try it, because he’s practicing right now, but I’d love to hear you play.” After listening to the young man’s performance, the prince applauded him and joked: “That’s why you play and I don’t!”

Prince William’s frustrated talent he wants his children to learn
William’s words not only revealed his interest in his children’s musical education, but also his own personal experience. According to his account, he received training in different instruments, but the lack of technique kept him from progressing. He also confessed that he would’ve liked to start earlier, as his children do now.

“I wish I’d started at their age. I didn’t know how to read music, so that was my biggest weakness. I started playing the piano, the trumpet, and the drums, and then I realized I had to memorize every melody and it just slipped away,” William said.

For this reason, the Prince of Wales believes it’s important for his children to learn to play different instruments from a young age. “I make sure my children learn music because I love it and it’s crucial, very important,” he noted in his conversation with the center’s leaders.

In fact, King Charles III’s son explained that each of them has already started playing an instrument. He explained that Prince George is starting with the guitar, Princess Charlotte with the piano, and little Prince Louis with the drums.

Prince William’s visit to Lambeth revealed his frustrated musical ability, but also his determination for his children to learn it. Meanwhile, he reaffirmed his social commitment with Homewards, highlighting projects that transform entire communities. Will this family and public gesture also be a legacy that his three little ones will carry with them in the future?
