Prince Harry’s long-running feud with the royal family might be thawing after his brief but momentous reunion with King Charles. The Duke of Sussex surprised royal watchers when he met with his dad on September 10 in London, marking the first time the senior royals have seen each other face-to-face in 19 months. Now, the father-son reunion could have a domino effect, as a source says there’s a possibility that Prince Harry and Prince William could reunite over the holidays after years of estrangement.
The Windsor brothers have kept each other at arm’s length since they last interacted at Queen Elizabeth’s 2022 funeral. While Harry flew to London for Charles’s 2023 coronation, he didn’t join them or the rest of the royals for a family photo on the balcony. He and William also didn’t appear to interact when they both attended their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’s funeral last August in Norfolk.
While a source previously told Us Weekly that Harry and Charles’s “emotional” reunion at the king’s home at Clarence House was “super positive and very relaxed,” Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly still not ready to let bygones be bygones just yet. “There has also been no direct communication between aides like there has been with Charles,” another source told Us Weekly about the ongoing “tension” between the brothers. “William and Kate haven’t initiated or responded to outreach from Harry at all. They do need more time.”
The source added that the Prince and Princess of Wales are still wary about factors that caused the rift in the first place, noting, “They are deeply hurt by the public disclosures, memoir revelations and interviews and criticisms of their roles, which they perceive as breaches of trust that require significant time to heal from, which is why they aren’t there yet.”
Another source also shared that William was struggling to move past some things Harry wrote about Kate in Spare, explaining, “There are lingering resentments of past conflicts, including Harry’s comments about Kate in his book. It left William guarded and needing more time to process before a face-to-face with Harry.”
