William allegedly found out at the “very last second” and was “stunned.”
Prince Harry and King Charles reunited for the first time in 19 months a couple days ago—a 55-minute meeting over tea at Clarence House that was apparently a total surprise to Prince William.
Rob Shutter’s ShutterScoop reports that William was “blindsided” and “left stunned” when he found out about the meeting at the “very last second,” and says that he wasn’t “consulted” about the reunion at all.
Per a courtier, “William thought his father was back in London strictly for cancer treatment and official audiences. He had no idea Harry was on the schedule—and certainly wasn’t asked for input.” Another insider adds that “If William had been consulted, he would have tried to block it. That’s why Charles went ahead quietly.”
A source previously told the Daily Mail that King Charles had one condition before agreeing to meet with Harry: no talking about what was said. “This is an important first step towards rebuilding their father-and-son relationship,” the source said. “He has told his father he won’t be giving any interviews about it and his team have been instructed not to brief journalists about what was said. There’s a long way to go before Harry can earn his family’s trust but he’s given some assurances.”
Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, simply confirmed that the meeting took place, saying that His Majesty had a “private tea at Clarence House with the Duke of Sussex.”
