In an interview with The National, 34-year-old Halep shared the reasons why she decided to leave tennis.
Although she previously thought about ending her career, the match against Lucia Bronzetti was an additional reason for her to make a decision earlier and realize that her body could no longer withstand the same efforts.
Simona Halep reveals that she never had a dilemma as to whether she made the right decision, knowing that she did the best for herself at that moment.
“I thought for a long time about when to make the decision, when to play my last match, but certainly, I didn’t decide it when I walked onto the court to face Lucia that day.
I simply felt that my place was no longer there. I felt very far away physically, I had knee pain and I could still feel it. After losing the first set, I made a decision and said, ‘After this, I’m going to stop.’ Then I went to my parents and told them I wanted to stop. They saw it as a good thing, that’s the story, but the reality is that no one knew.”- she said

Perhaps other tennis players could follow her example, given that she was considered one of the best in the world for years. However, when injuries become a daily occurrence and you feel a lot of pain on the court, it is surely time to say “goodbye”.
