Charlie Woods is on track to qualify for the Junior Players Championship

Charlie Woods is fresh off the biggest achievement of his fledgling career and he has benefitted from a huge rankings boost that has put him on track to qualify for a big tournament

Charlie Woods secured the biggest win of his fledgling career last week, and the teenager is set to be rewarded with a place at one of the most prestigious events in junior golf.

The 16-year-old son of 15-time major champion Tiger, Charlie won the Team Taylor Made Invitational at Streamsong Resort in Fort Meade, Florida, on May 28. He turned in cards of 70, 65 and 66 to post the winning score at 15-under-par, defeating some of the best amateur golfers on the planet in the process.

It was Charlie’s first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) accredited victory, and the win has sent him soaring up the AGJA rankings. In Tuesday’s update, Charlie rose 595 places to 14th in the rankings.

As a result, he on track to receive an invitation to the Junior Players Championship at the iconic TPC Sawgrass this summer. Charlie’s father won two of his 82 PGA Tour titles at the Stadium Course, winning The Players in 2001 and 2013 respectively.

The Junior Players will be held in August, with the field being finalized on July 8. The top 58 players in the AJGA rankings at that time will receive invitations to the tournament, meaning Charlie is on the cusp of punching his ticket to Sawgrass

Charlie still has two years of high school in front of him before heading to college and perhaps eventually turning pro, but being the son of arguably the greatest to ever play the sport inherently brings immense attention and pressure.
