Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek is now just a couple of weeks away from being ninth in the all-time list for most weeks spent at No 1 in the WTA Rankings while Danielle Collins and Naomi Osaka made big jumps after the Miami Open.

Four-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek started her 97th week at No 1 on Monday, which puts her now just one week behind Lindsay Davenport’s 98 for total weeks at the top of the rankings while Justine Henin is in eighth place on 117 weeks.

But they are well adrift of the big guns with Steffi Graf leading the way on 377 weeks while Martina Navratilova (332) and Serena Williams (319) are the other players who have spent more than 300 weeks at the top of the rankings.

Swiatek is already assured of passing the 100-week milestone as she has opened a 2,790-point lead over Aryna Sabalenka in second place. In fact, the Pole is guaranteed to stay at No 1 until the French Open as she only has 1,335 points to defend before Roland Garros while Sabalenka will defend 1,315 points.

The top two are followed by Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula while the only change in the top 10 sees Maria Sakkari move up to two places to No 7 after she reached the quarter-final of the Miami Open.

But the star of the top 100 over the last fortnight was without a doubt Danielle Collins as she won her maiden WTA 1000 title after defeating Rybakina 7-5, 6-3 in the final.

Collins, a former world No 7 who found herself at No 71 at the beginning of February, surged 31 places to No 22 after winning her third WTA singles titles.

Former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka is also back in the top 30 as she moved up six places to No 26 while fellow Miami semi-finalist Yulia Putintseva is up 16 places to No 52.

Much further down the list, Naomi Osaka is back in the top 200 as she moved up 37 places to No 192 after making it to the third round in Miami. The four-time Grand Slam winner started the year at No 833 after missing the 2023 season as she was on maternity leave.

Last year’s Miami Open winner Petra Kvitova dropped 37 places to No 60 as she was unable to defend her title as she is currently out pregnant while 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu now sits at No 219 after sliding 61 places.
