WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump plans to host a summit of world leaders centered on rebuilding Gaza during his visit to Egypt next week.
The summit, which is being organized by Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, is expected to be attended by leaders from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Indonesia, a source familiar with the matter told Axios. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not expected to be in attendance for the summit.
As Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire, thanks to a peace agreement broker by Trump, the summit serves as an opportunity for the United States to receive greater international support. There are still key details of the ceasefire deal, such as who will govern Gaza, that need to be worked out.
Trump will be arriving in Israel on Monday, which is the same day that the remaining 20 living hostages and the remains of 28, are expected to be released. He will arrive in the morning to give a speech in front of the Knesset and will meet with the hostages’ family members.
Trump will then arrive in Egypt in the afternoon, where he will participate in the official signing ceremony of the Gaza peace deal. The other guarantors of the deal include Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. The summit is expected to convene on Tuesday snd will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh.
