KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) – Norway’s Solveig Lovseth won the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona Saturday.

Lovseth crossed the finish line in 8 hours, 28 minutes, and 29 seconds, taking home her first world title in her first Ironman.

The lead changed multiple times during the run portion of the 140.6-mile course, and the Kona conditions got the best of the main leader, Taylor Knibb.

Knibb bowed out of the race just before the final stretch of Palani Road to the finish line, which made way for Lovseth to take the title.

“I was thinking like, ok, now, now I actually have the chance,” Lovseth said. “I just need to not blow up basically, but I couldn’t really believe it before I crossed the finish line. Not the way I, of course, wanted to pass any of them because both of them stopped right in front of me, which is like, I hope they’re both OK. I haven’t really heard anything about it yet, but yeah, I just can’t believe to be sitting here now.”

The last woman to win in Kona, Lucy Charles-Barclay, bowed out of the race due to injury.

Last year’s winner, Laura Philipp, finished in third place.
