Hollywood is mourning the loss of the legendary Diane Keaton, famous for her roles in “The Godfather” and “Annie Hall” and her iconic role as Annie Paradis in “First Wives Club.”

Bette Midler, who portrayed Brenda Cushman in the 1996 film alongside Keaton and Goldie Hawn, took to her Instagram with a heartfelt tribute for the late actress.

“The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died,” Midler, 79, wrote.

She added, “I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she wasoh, la, lala!”

Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who starred as Keaton’s on-screen daughter in 1991’s “Father of the Bride,” wrote, Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life. You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter.

Steve Martin, her “Father of the Bride” co-star, shared the photo below, saying it perfectly captures his “delightful relationship with Diane.” Martin and Keaton memorably portrayed George and Nina Banks, the loving parents of Annie Banks (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), in the beloved 1991 film and its 1995 sequel, “Father of the Bride Part II.”

Film director Paul Feig shared a touching post on X reflecting on his memories of the Oscar-winning actress, famed for her work in “Annie Hall” (1977).

“I was so honored to call Diane Keaton a friend. She was an amazingly kind and creative person who also just happened to be a Hollywood legend. She has been taken from us far too soon. We will miss you, Diane,” Feig, 63, wrote.

After hearing the heartbreaking news, actor Ben Stiller paid homage to the actress on social media, writing, “Diane Keaton. One of the greatest film actors ever. An icon of style, humor, and comedy. Brilliant. What a person.”

Keaton died on Saturday. Oct. 11 at age 79, a spokesperson from the family confirmed to PEOPLE.

The actress is survived by her two children, Dexter, 29, and Duke Keaton, 25.
