Stephen Colbert appeared for the last time on his ‘The Late Show’
Piers Morgan on Friday bid farewell to Stephen Colbert in a social media post that mixed admiration and criticism.
Morgan, who once called Colbert a “hypocrite” for cracking jokes about Britain’s Kate Middleton after her cancer diagnosis, shared a picture with Stephen Colbert, writing. Farewell, Very sharp and funny when playing characters on Daily Show and Colbert Report (which is when I appeared with him in this pic).”

He added, “Not so sharp or funny when he played himself on Late Show, and very dull/predictable after he caught TDS. Thought his finale was lame & laughably self-indulgent. You’re a TV host, mate, not Nelson Mandela.”
In his 2024 New York Post column, Morgan lashed out at Colbert for spreading conspiracy theories about Princess Kate’s whereabouts when she was suffering from cancer.
He called Stephen a hypocrite for his message to viewers after cracking jokes about the cancer stricken Princess of Wales.
Morgan said, “There’s a standard that I try to hold myself to, and that is I do not make light of somebody else’s tragedy.”
“I don’t know whether her prognosis is a tragic one, she’s the future queen of England and I assume she’s going to get the best possible medical care… But regardless of what it is, far too many of us know that any cancer diagnosis of any kind is harrowing for the patient and for their family.”
Although Stephen Colbert had tendered an apology, Morgan refused to accept it, writing, “His pitiful excuse for a non-apology last night, in which he didn’t say sorry “suggested that it was only once Kate’s illness turned out to be cancer that his “jokes” became something he should feel bad about.
