HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — Sixteen individuals are presumed dead after an explosion in Hickman County, Sheriff Chris Davis says.
The number of unaccounted individuals decreased from 18 to 16, after two people believed to be on site Friday were not at the facility during the incident, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reports.
Sheriff Chris Davis of the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that more than 300 personnel have combed the property, but no survivors have been found at this time. The families of all 16 victims have been notified at this time.
During a press conference Saturday afternoon, officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say they are still working on what caused the explosion.
Response and coordination
The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville is activated at Level 4 – Elevated to coordinate assistance and resources for local authorities.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with multiple agencies, including the ATF, on the scene.
Controlled detonations will occur to safely dispose of hazardous materials, and residents may hear or feel these detonations.
Residents are urged to contact the local sheriff’s office if debris is found.
Family assistance and missing persons

TEMA is encouraging those affected by the explosion and experiencing a mental health crisis to call 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The lifeline is a free and confidential service.
The TBI has also established a Missing Persons Hotline at 1-800-TBI-FIND (1-800-824-3463) for anyone seeking information about unaccounted-for individuals.
